Madison Early Music Festival

Madison Early Music Festival

The 19th annual Madison Early Music Festival, A Journey to Lübeck, will take place from July 7 – 14, 2018.

In 1705, 20-year-old Johann Sebastian Bach walked 250 miles to hear Dietrich Buxtehude, who was the organist at the Marienkirche in Lübeck, Germany. The musical history of the Marienkirche began in the 14th century, long before Buxtehude and Bach met. Next summer, MEMF 2018 will present Renaissance and baroque music from Northern Germany, including Italian and German sacred works from the 16th and 17th centuries that were recently discovered in the Choir Library at the Marienkirche in Lübeck.
