National Academies of Science, Engineering, and Medicine (NASEM) Town Hall

FreeStaff from the National Academies of Science, Engineering, and Medicine (NASEM) Maria Dahlberg and Ashley Bear will visit Madison to discuss NASEM’s white paper released last spring called “The Integration of the Humanities and Arts with Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine in Higher Education,” which addresses the need to integrate the arts, humanities, and social sciences into general education requirements.
UW–Madison presenters for the Town Hall include:
- Clare Haden, School of Nursing, on integrating acting skills for more effective communication and first impression formation
- Amy Zelenski, School of Medicine and Public Health, on teaching “Improvisation for Scientists”
- Bayleigh Benner, Department of Bacteriology, and Holly Walter Kerby, Fusion Science Theater/Wisconsin Story Works, on “Gaining STEAM!: Illuminating science through art” project
- Meredith Mink, L&S Constellations, on demonstrating the relevance of the humanities to all majors and career trajectories by offering clusters of humanities courses for STEM students
